Say So!: An interview with Pastors Ernest & Brenda Sewell of New Solid Rock Fellowship Church
Written by Carla Bluitt

NSR-SaySo-FirstCoverNew Solid Rock Fellowship Church was the very first church to be featured in Say So! Magazine's, "In the Pastor's Study," over 5 years ago and we are so excited to have you as the first church to be featured on the new and improved saysomagazine.com. I just want to take a moment to thank  you for your encouragement and support over the years and look forward to a great partnership. By the way, we congratulate Pastor Brenda on her recent recognition at the Annual Fullwood Foundation Banquet. God is good!

Say So!: Each year, I noticed that you have a theme for your church. What is your theme for 2010 and what does it mean?

NSRFC: Our theme for 2010 is "FIGHT TO WIN IN 2010 …Souls for Christ ." This theme, based on Proverbs 11:30 (…He who wins souls is wise.), represents a response to Jesus’ call  to every Believer to “ Go ye therefore and make disciples of all the nations…teaching them to observe all things that He has commanded us.”  We constantly share the urgency of this message, not only  with our congregation, but to everyone we can,  as a reminder that each one of us, from the youngest to the oldest, has been empowered to be a soul winner for Jesus Christ.

We are reaching souls through personal/friendship evangelism, street ministry, radio, banners, mail-outs, special church and community ministry projects such as Family movie and game night, in other words…We will "Fight to Win in 2010"...by any means necessary!

Say So!: The economy certainly has taken a dive since your ministry began but we know that God is still in control. What impact, if any, has the state of economy had on your ministry or the changing needs of those you minister to?

NSRFC: Yes, the economy has taken a dive…but Sis. Carla, we see God’s people trusting God and clinging to "The Rock."  Several in our congregation have become unemployed--a few for an extended period of time.  But we are so grateful that Jehovah Jireh is truly our provider.

We boldly declared by faith that the needs of every member of our Church as well as the needs of their extended family would be met.  It is with a voice of triumph that we report that not only are all needs  met, but that currently every lost job has been restored.  We are grateful for what God has done for us at New Solid Rock and know that He will do the same for every true worshipper in every city and state and town across America.  God can and God will!

Say So!: I understand that New Solid Rock has formed some strategic alliances with area churches. Tell us about that and how other area churches can get involved.

NSRFC: God has opened doors that we might live out our calling to be in genuine fellowship and be a church that reaches out in love to support  families in the community, Pastors, Congregations, and other  ministries.  Although we are a small and growing Church, we count it a privilege to be able to sow seed into new Churches as they grow.  Last year we were led to become part of a coalition of  Churches that shared a vision to collaborate in spreading the Gospel Good News that Jesus saves!  Together we sponsored an outdoor revival called Youth Explosion.  This event was held on the grounds of a supermarket in the Liberty Road community.   Many came to witness and enjoy two days of awesome music, preaching, testimonies, deliverance, prayer…games, food, and give-a-ways.  We were encouraged to continue this outreach event. The coalition is open to all churches, ministries and sold out saints who share a vision for church beyond the walls. For more information about the coalition and activities, interested parties should contact Dr. Maurice Bryson, Nehemiah House Ministries at  443-227-7775.

Say So!: I am a subsriber to your weekly phone messages and look forward to being able to share those nuggets with our readership. What inspired you to start the weekly telephone messages and how have they been received?

NSRFC: Thank you for asking.  We are very excited about this media treasure that our minister of music brought to our attention.  These two minute inspirational telephone messages enable us to stay connected with our membership, our ministry partners and friends on a weekly basis. Seniors and  others who are, from time to time, physically confined and are not able to get to church have shared their appreciation for this ministry. You see Sis. Carla, not only do we deliver a spiritual vitamin via voice message, but we use this medium to share highlights of the Sunday Celebration Service as well.  Word has spread concerning this phone message ministry to the point where individuals are requesting that their telephone number be added to the calling list.  God is good and His Word will not return to Him void!  And right now we are clapping our hands, doing our dance, and giving God the glory because soon we will be able to share our phone messages with thousands through our upcoming column:  Word on the Rock!--Coming soon to Say So! Magazine online.

Say So!: We are certainly looking forward to that and pray that God's blessings would continue to be upon you and your dynamic ministry.
