How Much Can One Heart Take?
Written by Dena Newman

HEART_LOUOne of my favorite books in the Bible is the Book of Ruth. It reminds me of how unconditional love in relationships is meant to be cherished, respected and honored. I believe that as Christian women and men of God, unconsciously, we think we are prepared for the day to day changes that life brings. That is, until the change actually comes to us. On March 21, 2000, my life changed right before my eyes. It was early in the morning and I was awakened by a loud noise. I was half asleep and half awake but it sounded as if something had fallen or someone had dropped something.

I listened carefully to see if I was going to hear it again but I only heard water running. I looked over to my left and noticed that my husband was not there so I assumed that he was in the shower. I called out to him and he did not respond. I got up and knocked on the door and called out to him again but still there was no answer. I began to open the door but I could not get the door all the way open. I called for my brother to help me and I forced my way in and saw that my husband was lying on the floor. I called 911 and while waiting for the paramedics to arrive, the dispatcher walked me through the process of CPR. Although I did everything that I could possibly do that morning, my husband did not make it. As I reflect back on what happened, I know that nothing but God could have brought me through the pain that I felt and the tears that I cried. My relationship with God is better--I’m stronger and wiser. I know that God brought me through and I praise him every day. Writer, Dena Newman

Recently my family experienced a similar sudden loss and it is true what Dena is saying. God will make you better through tough situations such as the death of a loved one.

Hi Carla, yes there are many scriptures that I was drawn to and continue to read to this day. It's been 10 years this March and Matthew 21:22, Luke 1:37, Proverbs 3:7-8,and John, 8:31-32 are some of my favorites.
