With all the churches in Baltimore City, why is there no visual outreach in the African American communities.  According to the American Family Journal, last year at a Traditional Values Coalition-sponsored event in Washington D.C., more than 60 African American pastors gathered to voice opposition to homosexual marriages and civil unions, calling a constitutional amendment and protecting marriage as a union of one man and one woman.

Although these are important issues, African American Christians are still needed in assisting in building and improving the African American communities.  It seems African American Christians just go to church, worship, and have weekly bible study but do nothing to evangelize communities.  As David Alan Black stated, “We tend to patronize God instead of obeying Him and we use Him for our own satisfaction and gratification, we call upon Him for what we can get but our sinful hearts are far from Him.”

Jesus gave the command to go into the entire world and preach the gospel, making disciples of men.  It seems that African American Christians are not heeding this command and therefore disobeying God.  When there is so much homicidal killing and drug dealings in our communities, it is time for Christians to rise to the occasion and stop looking to our political leaders to do something.  Although it is the job of the Mayor and other local political officers to make cities safer, Christians can assist in this.  It is a shame that there is practically a church on every corner in the city and in African American neighborhoods, and there is no visual outreaches occurring.

The times we live in call for measures suited to the crisis.  As stated earlier about killings, drug dealings, and not to mention the high pregnancy and promiscuity, Christians need to take a stand and declare righteousness and win the lost. Apostle Paul says “Redeem the time,” (Col 4:5).  This means that Christians are to buy up the time and take advantage of every opportunity to share the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and make an impact in the Communities.  If the Gospel is the good news, than why not share it in the cities in the midst of all the bad news that is going on.

We don’t know what tomorrow may bring.  Tomorrow could bring death on our cities.  If African American Christians would get beyond the four walls of the church building and with the same commitment to church attendance, have outreach in local communities, tomorrow could bring a day of blessings.  As Christians, we have compassion for our suffering city but it is time to put that compassion into action by becoming proactive in our communities by evangelizing and assisting our local officials in building a better black community.
