Lord Jesus Christ Hit By Car

While sitting in a parking lot recently, my kids and I noticed a very unique name emblazoned on the glass door in front of our car. The first name of this local financial advisor was Colon. We spent about five minutes laughing about how he must have been the "butt" of jokes and jeers as a teenager and came up with some pretty good ones ourselves.

I was led to think about the names that parents give their children again as I read the MSNBC news article with the headline "Lord Jesus Christ (his real name) Hit by Car" http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37015837/ns/us_news-weird_news/

I was a little upset by the fact that someone would name their child after our Lord and Savior but then realized that, in fact, Jesus' last name was not Christ. While this fact, certainly doesn't make me feel more comfortable with someone naming their child, Lord Jesus Christ, it does cause me to reflect on just how sweet the name of Jesus is.

Writer, Phillip Shroeder, sheds some light on the question, "What was Jesus' last name?" in his commentary, The Bible Speaks Today: Jesus' Last Name Has Ancient Meaning. " Christ is a title, not a last name," Shroeder writes. "Christ is the English form of the Greek word, which means “Anointed One.” Messiah is the English form of the same word in Hebrew. The term is a clear reference to the way that kings were chosen."  You can read the entire article by visiting:

THE BIBLE SPEAKS TODAY: JESUS' LAST NAME HAS ANCIENT MEANING

As a believer, aren't you glad that you can call on the name of Jesus and that He hears us?

1 John 5:14-15 (New International Version)
This the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.

Have you called on the name of Jesus lately? Has God answered a prayer for you today? Share your praise reports with us.
