In The Field: Air Of Excitement

Terrye with the drama team

After the food distribution, we went back to the hotel and then the drama team took a short walk to the NATO building for our first rehearsal. I decided to participate in the drama because of Sis. Vida’s encouragement and as it turned out, I was blessed beyond measure.  It was a sacrifice though as we were required to rehearse for several hours each day. It was grueling as our drama director, Pastor Brian, worked with us to make the play as authentic as possible. It was difficult for many of us because not only was it hard for those playing the demonic role to get into character, but it was physically challenging as well.  We had to get the point across without benefit of spoken language. There were bumps, bruises, scrapes and falls, but all was gain for the cause of Christ as we believed the drama to have played a great part in the dramatic response of the crowd to the invitation for Christ and Holy Spirit empowerment.

At 4:30 PM, we boarded the buses again and made our way to a busy part of Tirana to hand out leaflets inviting people to come to the “Night of Miracles (NETËNETT E MREKULLIVE). Sis. Vida, Bro. Lance from New Zealand and I traveled off the beaten path into the neighborhood. We met several people on our way, some who were receptive and kindly took the information and others who were not so gracious. When we ran out of leaflets, we boarded the buses again and headed for the miracle night venue, the local basketball stadium.

When we reached our final destination, everyone was all a bustle as people of all ages rushed into the stadium. There was an air of excitement and anticipation. I wonder what God will do tonight, I thought. Seats were filling up fast and the youth choir was already in place singing the songs of Zion in Albanian. Soon we were lost in His love as the praise and worship team ushered us into the inner court. And then the service began.
To be continued…

terrye_at_trainstationFor the next couple of weeks, Say So! Magazine will be following one of our readers on a modern day missions trip.  Rev. Terrye Ashby of New Solid Rock Fellowship Church, Baltimore, MD felt the call in her heart to "go ye therefore" and didn't hesitate when the opportunity presented itself through Marilyn Hickey Ministries.

When Terrye shared with the editors of Say So! that she would be going on this trip we jumped at the chance to get an insider's perspective of a modern day missions trip.  We will be sharing portions of Terrye's travel journal with you as she experiences being out in the field.  Enjoy.
